City Newsletter July 2, 2020

July 2, 2020
Stay safe and have a happy Independence Day
Flags fly at the Aurora Municipal Center
Happy Independence Day! We hope your weekend is a welcome celebration of food, family and rest. We also hope you celebrate safely amid dry conditions and COVID-19.

Aurora is currently under a Stage 1 Burn Restriction due to the increasing fire danger associated with current weather conditions. That means that the sale, possession and use of fireworks are illegal in our city. This ban is not unique – dozens of other jurisdictions in our state have issued burn restrictions. The goal is to prevent both structural and wildland interface fires in our community.

Please remember to maintain social distancing when around people not in your household, wear a face covering when you're out, and keep up good hygiene habits with frequent handwashing.

If you would like to file a complaint about non-emergency fireworks use, you can fill out an online form at AuroraGov.org/ContactUs. We ask that you only use 911 if there is a life-threatening emergency or to report activity that poses an imminent threat. If 911 call takers are flooded with non-emergency calls or questions, they are unable to help those who have an urgent need.
Helping your dog this Fourth of July

Even though they are banned in Aurora this year, the sounds of booming fireworks will likely continue, and that can be a stressful situation for pets. The Aurora Animal Shelter has some tips to calm your dog's anxiety.
